Teaching Costume Design in the Classroom
A Workshop for Teachers
When: Saturday 31st October, 2009, 10am – 4pm
Where: Upstairs Rehearsal Room, Company B’s Warehouse, 18 Belvoir Street, Surry Hills
Cost: $130 per person, includes workshop & resource material, lunch & morning tea
Costume designer Jo Briscoe will take teachers through the principles
of theatrical design as well as, more specifically; the elements of
costume design and a variety of approaches to teaching costume design
in the classroom.
The workshop will include practical activities in costume design.
Resource materials and a written overview of the workshop will be provided to teachers at the workshop.
This workshop is ideal for Drama teachers. Textiles teachers might also
find this workshop useful and interesting but please be advised that it
will not address the HSC Textiles curriculum specifically.

- ♦ The process of designing costumes for a show from the first script reading to opening night
- ♦ What makes an effective costume design
- ♦ The role of the costume design in the overall production
- ♦ The tools available to the costume designer: line, colour and texture
- ♦ Suggested activities for teaching costume design in the classroom
